The Flowers of May follows David and Lisa, a couple whose expectations of parenthood shift when their son is diagnosed with autism. Written by Matthew and performed with Eileen Gomez, the play draws on the real experiences of both performers as parents of autistic children. Directed by Emma Saunders, it premiered at The Garage Theatre, Monaghan, and concluded a successful national tour in March 2026.

Matthew began his stage career in 2012 in John B. Keane's Many Young Men of Twenty, and continues to write and develop new work for the stage.

Matthew McMahon is an Irish actor, voice artist and writer based in Monaghan, working across film, television, animation, theatre and voice. He is regularly cast in grounded, credible roles — fathers, detectives, teachers, professionals — the everyman carrying weight without losing warmth.
His screen work includes the feature film The Restoration at Grayson Manor (Fantastic Fest 2025), the Peacock drama The Rainmaker, and ITV / Virgin Media's Redemption. As a voice artist he plays Mr. Wolf in RTÉ's animated series Stories from Backwoods and an Irish soldier in the video game The Great War: Western Front.
Off screen, Matthew wrote The Flowers of May, a two-hander drawn from his own and co-performer Eileen Gomez's experiences as parents of autistic children, which toured nationally before concluding in 2026. He is a co-founder of Two & One Productions, trained at The Gaiety School of Acting, and is represented by Red Kite Talent.
A father of three, he also creates content across Instagram, TikTok and YouTube documenting his career, family life and personal journey.
